There is nothing more exciting than a brand new adventure .. exploring a new place, trying a new dish in a restaurant. Somehow these things feel less daunting than embarking on another chapter of life.
Perhaps because they feel less permanent ..
We set goals, we work hard to achieve them, we make progress and once we have achieved a level of success we settle .. is it because we feel happy about the result achieved? It's a bit like saying I’m going to lose a dress size, then losing the dress size and stopping there because the goal has been reached, whereas if you’d just continued you may have lost two or three.
For me, it's all about perspective and mindset .. looking back, when I lost 1 stone, I thought my whole life would be different and I would feel better about myself and like I had made it to heaven. And yes that's true, I did, I felt a whole lot better because I had achieved my goal. But had I not continued with an open mind I would never have lost 2.5 stone and competed in bodybuilding shows.
Initially, I didn't love the fact that I was experiencing hormonal flux, who does. It's really hard for over 70% of us ladies of a certain age. Once I realised there were things I could do to make my life a whole lot easier, and that it wasn’t the end of the road, I felt a whole lot better, and so the journey continues.
I have always helped women take control from a place of experience and there is nothing different at this stage. Always investigating, pushing boundaries and finding solutions is the way I tackle life.
So the question is, why do we settle? Is it because we fear failure? Or do we fear success? Or do we lose the inquisitiveness about life that youth has in buckets. The willingness to explore and see what happens?
Big life changes can be scary, resulting in a total freeze, a lack of action, feeling completely paralyzed. I think that is human nature. Fear of the unknown, perhaps not wanting to get honest and face reality, or let go of the past. No one ever said life would be easy, but we will never know what life could look like if we stop moving forward and settle.
Love this quote, it sums it up for me.
“Po: Maybe I should just quit and go back to making noodles.
Oogway: Quit, don't quit? Noodles, don't noodles? You are too concerned about what was and what will be. There is a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present.”
